I too have heard from some friends who were on the market a few years ago that some schools will wait until the last minute to join the ES and then to schedule interviews. They said that the reason is that everyone is on vacation right now, trying to figure out who will go to ASA, what sessions they want to attend, etc. Im hoping this is true... or else I am fearing a dismal year. A friend/colleague didn't hear from the school she's currently employed at until she was at ASA, so I imagine there will be lots of last minute requests. Anyone hear from College of the Holy Cross? Just curious...

@ green: Just a heads up, there's a VAP at Washington and Lee that seems to fit the job call quite well, especially regarding the innovative teaching strategies (he's published in teaching sociology and the article won an ASA teaching award). Anything is possible, but he's got his foot well in the door.

I have heard from UIC and several others that have been noted here already.

fyi - Yes I'm aware of the situation. A person can dream, though. Also, a well-placed source has indicated that this particular VAP is looking for something in the R1 ranks. Do you have any info on that?

Washington and Lee Luther Northland
I've contacted about ten more but haven't heard from them. I seriously thought I'd get more than this. How selective are these places being in who they set up interviews with?

I think given the sheer number of applicants, that these schools can be selective.
I have interviews with Washington & Lee UMKC UAB Millsaps

Washington and Lee is setting up interviews in a suite, rather than using the ES room. Do you know why they're doing this, and whether anyone else is doing this?

Washington and Lee always uses a suite when they hire. All the relevant faculty who are at the meetings are there, so it's not a one-on-one or two-on-one thing like most of the ES ones are. They're a pretty friendly group.
As far as the VAP goes, there's a chance that they'll hire two people as they need to replace a retiring professor and another one who didn't get tenure.
