So, a week and a half away from ASA, it looks like what there is now might be it, as far as employers participating in the ES. That's a bit disappointing.
I'm curious for any of you that have experience with it. I've heard that invitations to interview sometimes come late, or even during the conference. Is that true?

Yes, last year there were some postings the day before and even during the conference. Also, schools are wise to leave open a few slots in case some people register for ES at ASA. If there's a school you are really interested in, find out who the interviewers are -look up their pictures and any other faculty attending, go to their presentations and ask a question and/or hang around at the section business meeting or go to their reception and strike up a casual conversation. gotta be creative....

I'm also waiting to hear from La Salle and Amherst. SUNY-Buffalo, too, but I think that might be a lost cause. I've got interviews with UC-Colorado Springs (they initiated), Westminster College (they initiated), and Georgia State (I initiated).

Has anyone seen an official job posting for the Georgia State job that listed in the annual meeting employment service (see info below)?
I have emailed a few faculty at Georgia State to no avail.
Searching for a scholar with substantive research interests in one of the three following specialty areas that complement our existing strengths: 1) family, 2) health, and/or 3) aging and life course. A successful candidate must have a demonstrated research agenda that can lead to external funding.

confused,
I've noticed that several of these listings in the ES have appeared long before any "official" listings elsewhere. UN-L announced their opening here a while ago and only recently posted it to their website.
I suspect that makes these ES listings a bit less official or final, since some of them may be pending administrative approval and such.

Yes, in my experience the ES interviews are informal and based on the depts expectations that they WILL have a position. I also think this is why the number of schools using it dropped in recent years, since the depts are no longer confident that admin will approve the positions and don't want to waste time and money if the position goes no where.
At least that's my take.

I too have heard from some friends who were on the market a few years ago that some schools will wait until the last minute to join the ES and then to schedule interviews. They said that the reason is that everyone is on vacation right now, trying to figure out who will go to ASA, what sessions they want to attend, etc. Im hoping this is true... or else I am fearing a dismal year.

Also, has anyone heard from the University of Missouri at St. Louis? Just wondering...

Let us know if you hear back from any of those folks. I'm interested in a couple of those positions, but have heard anything from any of them. I got an email from Washington and Lee last night. They want to set up an interview. Also, there's a new one today - Keene State College.

ES= waste of time and a big con. How many potential job candidates PAY for this and how much money does ASA rake in?
