Just wondering... are people getting interview requests from places (besides Luther), or are these going to be sent out at the last minute? And do we get an automatic email notification or does one have to keep logging into the site? Thanks in advance!

I can't speak to when the universities will contact those in the Employment Service, but when you get an invitation from a school you get an email about it and then it also shows up on the Employment Service website. You can then confirm or deny it.

I've sent interest notifications to UN-L six weeks ago. I still haven't heard back. Has anyone heard from UN-L?

I sent UN-L an interview request several weeks ago. I received an email from an interviewer a day or two later saying that they didn't yet know what times they would be available to interview but would email me when they figured it out.
I got a request for UC-Colorado Springs so they're also sending them.

Heard that SUNY-Buffalo will be looking through CVs and making interview decisions in the next week or two.

good lord! from 126 to 70 to 10! thanks for the info, but damn! that is not encouraging news. That 10 figure can't be right...I did the ES that year and I remember there being closer to 40 places interviewing. Unless they meant tenure track positions? I had 4 interviews, one with the census and 3 with TT jobs.

My memory isn't the best, but I remember about 30 employers in SF.

There has been a decline over the past few years, the 2007 and 2008 figures look accurate, but there were about 35 departments interviewing in 2009. Still down a lot. I wonder if some of it is related to the shift in many schools approaches to set application deadlines earlier - look at the September deadlines for some departments this year. It used to be that mid to late October was an early deadline.

I'd think it would be the opposite--departments are waiting on the budget before posting positions and this process is pushing everything back. As a result, they aren't ready in time for ASA. Maybe...?
Or maybe they've read all the rumor mill posts from yesteryear in which people piss and moan about how useless the Employment Service is...

Or they've read people saying that mostly lower status institutions use the ES, and said "we're not low status! Better not use the service."
Mostly kidding. Might be too cheap to lay out for it, just to pre-screen candidates.

I'm beginning to feel like I wasted a lot of $ to register for the conference and ES since there are so few listings.
