I got a request for additional materials. Not sure if this means they have a long-short list now.

Me, too. Wondering how long the list is at this point. Any info much appreciated, and good luck to us all.

I also received the email. I'm assuming that they also have quite a few applications from folks in the UK and Europe that aren't checking this site, and there are probably a number of others beyond the three of us who had time to come here and post immediately. So, I'm guessing it's more of a long list. I would fit in, by the way, to their Economies, Risk and Technology research cluster.
According to the email campus visits are January 10 & 11th. I had a British friend in a different field who was on the market last year and got a job back in England. I feel like this has already been discussed on the board somewhere, but apparently the typical system there is to bring in all of the candidates for campus visits on the same two days. They make a final decision at the end of the second day and so you know by that night whether you have the job. Sounds like an efficient but stressful system.

I Like that system. I am the first poster - I would fit into the politics/movements cluster.
How long of a list do you think it would be? I imagine that they used some criteria for thinning out the applications.

It seems to be some sort of cut, as I applied, but was not contacted for additional materials. Good luck to those still in the running!

Was this a separate job ad from the recent Open Rank cluster hire with the due date of December 7th?

I am the second poster from above. FWIW, I'd fit into both the Human Rights, Violence, & Injustice cluster and the Politics, States, & Movements cluster.
good luck - Thank you for letting us know, and best wishes to you, too.
drbearjew - This was a posting for two Lecturer positions in sociology with a deadline of 11/18. The ad suggested that the position was open but listed a preference for quantitative methods and race/ethnicity. So yes, it is different from the open cluster hire with the 12/7 deadline.

I also made the cut, which means at least 4 on this side of the pond.
So you would imagine the list must be at least 20, but this is nothing more than an educated guess.

My logic is this:
At least double the amount of people who posted here, leading to about 8. Then, at least that number from the UK, this would mean 16. Then, just roll in another 4 as a error and assume we would undercount. So I would say between 20 and 25 folks.

The assessment of 20 to 25 seems about right, maybe a little more. Perhaps the U.S. candidates will thin out a bit, though. For instance, I'm one of the earlier posters and I've got a few campus interviews in the U.S. It depends upon whether I get an offer and from where, but there's a decent chance that I wouldn't hold out until mid-January, as cool as LSE sounds.

If alsomadethecut's very scientific reasoning is correct and they are interviewing for two positions then their long-short list seems to be about on par with the size of those in the US.

what is the difference between the cluster hire and this one? also, for the cluster hire does it mean they are not hiring for the sociology department?
