Promotion requirements. My bad. No offense meant or taken. It seemed worth clarifying for applicants to any UK jobs. No tenure, but you get the same employment protections anyone in a permanent job in any sector receives. HE news suggests this is not as good as tenure at a US comparable institution. On the positive side, no tenure track or up-or-out promotion procedure.

UKBased -- you are very helpful. Can you tell us more about what it is like to work in a typical UK school and/or the LSE compared to the typical U.S. school? Expectations for promotion? Pubs? Grant-writing? Collegiality? Resources for work? Resources for travel?

It doesnt look like the they want to hear anything about teaching in the cover letter. is this common in the UK? seems a bit strange!

For those who applied to the Nov deadline position and received the email requesting additional materials: have you heard anything since? I'm wondering if they have selected the candidates for the campus visit. I imagine if the visit is happening Jan 10-11 they would need to give at least a few weeks notice and the holidays are coming up.

I received an email this morning informing me that I didn't make the cut. Good luck to anyone who did.

Has anyone on here (who made the long-short list) NOT received the rejection letter? I have not. My stomach is somewhere in my throat right now.

London schools shut down mid December. So, perhaps no news until post Christmas...

Interesting. If they are having interviews Jan 10/11 it seems they will need to notify folks pretty quickly after the new year.
