I got word yesterday that I was not going to be invited to campus. It was a nice letter. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Good luck to those that interview!

Which position are we discussing?
(a) One of the three positions specifically in sociology with a due date of Nov 18?
(b) One of the many (20?) non-discipline-specific positions with a due date of Dec 7 ?

There was also a social policy job that had a deadline on 1/1. not sure about the timeline for that.

The position which I got a rejection letter for earlier this week was: "(a) One of the three positions specifically in sociology with a due date of Nov 18" I had made it past one round of rejections on the long-short list.

Is there anyone else out there who still hasn't heard either way about the nov 18 deadline positions? Have they extended interview invitations yet?

Is there anyone else out there who still hasn't heard either way about the nov 18 deadline positions? Have they extended interview invitations yet? I certainly expect that interview invitations have been extended, since the long-short list email they sent indicated that the campus interviews were going to occur Jan 10/11. I expect the interviewees are mostly Europeans not checking this board. Maybe if you haven't heard anything you're a backup in case they don't like any of the folks coming on Jan 10/11. Security check: jump higher

tl;dr LSE is hiring 20+ lecturers across the whole school, plus some professors The LSE Department of Sociology is hiring two positions These are separate job searches
Long version There are two positions specifically in the LSE Department of Sociology at the moment. There is a professorship and a lectureship that fill gaps left by departing faculty. Last year the department lost a whopping number of staff through pre-REF* predatory hiring and some internal issues.
The School as a whole is also hiring a swathe of new staff in an effort to bolster their REF results. In the last Research Assessment Exercise** the Department of Sociology didn't come out so well. So they are doing their own hiring for the REF on top of the LSE's general search for 20+ lectureships that span the entire school.
I hope that clears up some of the confusion.
*For Americans (who seem to be the dominant posters here), the Research Excellence Framework is a funding exercise that determines how much money universities receive from the government. (That's a crude explanation, but fair enough.) This assessment process repeats every 6 years.
**The last round of assessment was called the Research Assessment Exercise. Some of the evaluation criteria have changed as well as the name this time around.

so does anyone have an idea of what the realistic timeline for hearing back would be? Typical for the UK in all disciplines, may or may not be the case with the LSE: It would be rare not to have a shortlist within 1 month after the closing date. All shortlist candidates are interviewed the same day. An offer is usually extended within 24 hrs or so after interviews are completed. The first choice candidate will be expected to accept or not within a week, as there is little room for negotiation. A reserve candidate may be held in limbo, but otherwise you'll be put out of your misery very quickly. Hope that helps.
