Can someone post the job listing for UMass Lowell? I can't find it anywhere (even though I swear I saw it before) and don't have access to the ASA job board. Thank you in advance!

Here's one of the postings: The Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell will be seeking applications for an Assistant Professor tenure track position (pending final budget approval) from individuals with an interest in becoming part of a vibrant and growing community of scholars. While the area of specialization is open, we are particularly interested in scholars whose research and teaching interests connect broadly to social policy and communities. Ability to teach quantitative methods preferred. The Sociology Department offers a B.A. degree, and faculty also have the opportunity to teach in interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs. There is the potential for the 2/2 teaching load for faculty who meet criteria for "research productive" status. A detailed job description, minimum qualifications, and instructions for applicants will be posted upon final approval of the position. And here't the second one: The College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time social science faculty member with expertise and research interests related to the role of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. With a robust academic enterprise in the fields of sciences and engineering, UMass Lowell has a substantial interest in understanding the challenges facing women studying and working in STEM fields. As such, the University is committed to supporting and promoting research and scholarship focused on identifying the barriers to, and facilitators of, women's success in STEM careers, as well as the promotion of professional development of women in STEM at our own university. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the intersections among gender dynamics, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, and those with strong quantitative research skills. Additional desirable skills include expertise in measurement development as well as qualitative research methods. Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding for research is also highly desirable. The position will be either tenure-track or tenured, commensurate with qualifications. Faculty appointment will be within one of the College’s social science departments, based on candidate’s primary discipline. Beyond maintaining an active research agenda, the selected faculty member will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in his/her field, supervise student research, and engage in departmental and university service. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in economics, political science, psychology, sociology, or other relevant discipline; 3 years of research experience post-Ph.D.; and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Beyond these minimum qualifications, candidates will be evaluated based on the basis of several criteria, including research publication record; record obtaining funding and conducting grant-funded research; and record of achievement in undergraduate and graduate teaching, including supervision of student research. Review of applicants will begin on November 1, 2014. Further information on the position and online application instructions may be found at jobs.uml.edu under the position title, “Interdisciplinary Social Science Tenure-Track Faculty - Women in STEM.”

I found them useful as far as getting questions answered that I had, as well as explaining my research/teaching interests (though I do that in my letter). I didn't get much of a feel for how they went because everyone was nice and seemed interested and pleasant and curious...so that wasn't helpful. I had hoped to come away with a sense of how each went, you know? As in, well that went terribly, don't bother...or that went great, definitely have a chance there. Oh, well. Basically I feel like they all went well, I have a bit more info about some schools, and that's pretty much it.

I have a couple of friends in a search committee who were in charge of conducting the ES interviews for their department. they said that the process from the faculty side is exhausting, and that by the end of the day they were just struggling to pay attention to candidates. That doing what they did (interviews for almost 7 or 8 hours daily) they could barely remember most candidates. The only ones they did remember, which is perhaps the interesting part here, were the ones that went contrary to expectations. I.e., they didn't remember good or bad candidates. The ones they could really remember by name were: - Candidates who seemed incredible on paper but were a disappointment in person - Candidates who seemed like poor fits, but on the interview really stood out in making a case for why they fit the search
Everyone else was a blur.

As a member of a search committee, my guess is the process works differently for different schools, just as it does for different candidates. The ES meetings were very helpful for our department. We walked away with excitement about some of the candidates we thought would be good fits...but also some candidates we were uncertain would be good fits. Best of luck to everyone.

Does anyone who interviewed with University of Richmond know the name of the third interviewer? I've got Eric Grollman and Joan Neff, but I can't remember the third woman, and I don't see her on the faculty web page.

Yes! I glossed over her because she's an anthropologist (and I didn't recognize her picture), but she's also the chair of the department Thanks.
