MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY—The Department of Sociology seeks
qualified applicants for several tenure-track positions at the Assistant
Professor rank to begin in Fall 2014. A Ph.D. in Sociology or closely related
field is required at the time of appointment but excellent ABD candidates
will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who do research
in and teach (at both the graduate and undergraduate level) in two or more
of the following areas: social demography, rural sociology/community,
research methods, race, gender, and family. Standard teaching load is 2/2.
Programs offered include BA, MS, and Ph.D. in Sociology. The department
consists of 22 faculty members (18 in Sociology and 4 in Social Work),
more than 400 undergraduate majors, and typically 50 sociology graduate
students. The Department has strong ties to the University’s African
American Studies and Gender Studies Programs. Applications should
include a vita, a letter describing research and teaching interests and any
supporting materials that demonstrate teaching and/or service
