saw on the wiki that UMKC was moving on the demography position, but I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about the qualitative methods position.
good luck to everyone involved!

I don't have any inside information but my guess is that since they are conducting phone interviews for the demography position now, they are probably taking these searches one at a time and will wait to move on the qualitative search until after they have had on-campus interviews for the demography position. Again, I have no idea if this is true, but I've seen departments conducting multiple searches simultaneously handle things in a similar fashion.

i was wondering if departments sometimes did business this way. would it have killed them to handle this position first?

Does anyone know how far along they are with the demography search? Have they invited people to campus yet? This may give us an idea of when they will start the qual search.

The demography search phone interviews finish up tomorrow, and the committee will make a decision about who to bring into campus sometime next week.
I don't know how much information that really gives you, though. They could start with the qual applications immediately after they settle on the people to invite, or they could wait until they hire someone for the demography position.

The wiki says that on campus interviews have been scheduled for the demography position.

they've been contacting references for the qual search (I know only because they contacted me to get updated contact information for one of mine), but I have no idea how large a group they're doing that for.

has anyone on the long list been contacted or are we still at the point of just having letter writers contacted?

I dont know about the qual position, but I was in the running for the demography position and it took about a week from when they contacted my letter writers until they started to schedule phone interviews - if that helps!
