The phone interviews ended yesterday. Candidates should be notified in the next week or two.

Just an FYI - it looks like UMKC has all next week off for thanksgiving, so if calls for interviews don't go out today, we should be able to chill for a week (if that's possible).

Anyone know if UMKC hired for the qual or demography position?

I think the qual interviews won't happen until January, but maybe they got them through in December--I'm not sure. Given their timeline, the demography offer is probably out, but I haven't heard of a hire yet.

They finished with the qual interviews and met about who to extend the offer to. I don't know if they extended the offer, if it was accepted, etc.

I just heard that they froze the qualitative hire.
No idea if they will do another search next year.

Frozen after selecting someone? What happens to the person?

I'm curious as to what is meant by "frozen". Does that mean that someone accepted but then backed out of the position or that the school backed out? Please elaborate.

The way I heard it was that the offer was out but the dept had to retract the offer.
I assume it was due to budget issues, but that is just speculation on my part.

If the department did, indeed, retract the offer due to budget issues, that is all kinds of ridiculous. Hopefully, the offer wasn't the only one in hand and the candidate didn't decline all of his or her other possibilities once the offer was presented.

If so, I think they should offer a new course next year:
"How to trash your university's reputation 101."

I applied to several jobs at Missouri this year and they were all cancelled, most recently a position in Public History that was pulled just weeks after it was announced.
