The deadline for this position was 10 days ago. What is it about this year that people seem to expect immediate responses? Yes, some are quick. Most however take a month or longer to actually make progress in their searches.

I wasn't talking about that job. I was talking about the job for the Medicine, Health, and Society position, the deadline for which was October 1.

eh... by my count that's 26 days past the deadline, so still under a month. In which case I say yes, it's a little too early to hear back.

they've already scheduled interviews. i know someone in physical anthropology who's been invited. it is a humanities and social sciences position, so I do not know if any sociologist has even been invited.

Any more details re the shortlisting at Vanderbilt for the MHS job? Any sense of the range of disciplines shortlisted? I'm intrigued re choosing a physical anthro person; would have guessed they would be far more likely to choose med anthro/med sociology/med geography etc. people.

I'm not so sure about 'no room for sociologists' post. I'll assume they know someone in anthro is being invited, but the MHS Dept. has a LOT of the Soc Dept listed as faculty affiliates. I count 8 people with PhDs in Soc: www.vanderbilt.edu/mhs/peopleThat department may not want a sociologist currently, but they definitely have soc as a component of their program. I could see them bringing in a sociologist who studies genetics, racial disparities in health, medical soc, health care organizations, etc.

"No room for sociologists" is mistaken. There isn't even a long list of candidates for the MHS searches yet - either the junior or open rank position. From what I understand, it's going to be a couple more weeks before interviews are scheduled.

let's hope it was "mistaken" and not intentional misdirection

MHS is setting up phone/skype interviews with "semifinalists" for next week. I received an email today.
PS I am a sociologist, albeit with an interdisciplinary bent.

Any idea how many "semifinalists" are being contacted for phone/skype interviews -- or indeed of the disciplinary background of these semifinalists (beyond that of "seltz" -- the sociologist with an interdisciplnary bent)?

I second a request for info. Any Vandy insiders that can confirm whether phone/skype interviews have been scheduled for the MHS position? Are they doing phone/skype interviews with all potential candidates, or just ones they are less sure about (or perhaps more sure about)?

Must have Vandy info! Any news on the MHS positions or the health position in the Vandy Sociology Dept.? Since the latter is funded with RWJ money, I'm wondering if an RWJ scholar will have that one on lock?
