I can confirm that Skype interviews are now taking place with the top junior candidates for the MHS Search. It's a long list of candidates (17 people) who have diverse backgrounds (e.g., sociology, history, anthropology, English, etc). There might also be some (additional?) in-person preliminary interviews at AAA next week, but I'm not sure how good my intel is on that front. My understanding is that the intention is for the search committee to identify the top 3 people after this round of interviewing in order to invite them for campus interviews in early December.

If you take a look at the Vandy sociology webpage, you will find that the current RWJ folk did not hold RWJ postdocs. I would not assume there is much connection between the two programs.
This is not to say that an RWJ doesn't look great.

Thanks, insider info. Very, very bummed to hear this, though. Any news on the open rank position? Are they getting the junior position out of the way before making decisions on the open position?
