Are there any rumors about who will be hiring next year (perhaps due to failed searches)? Or what time of the year do these rumors begin to emerge?

It's usually when the job ads start to go out by email. (HR websites can take longer.)

Washington University in St. Louis will be hiring 2-3 faculty members for the next five years while it fills out it's newly re-formed sociology department. They're looking for "up and comers" who can draw more senior scholars down the road. It is my understanding that all sociological disciplines will be sought, including criminolgy. In short: keep your eye on WashU. It is a stunningly beautiful campus in the heart of St. Louis County, and you really can't match the resources except perhaps at Harvard, Yale, etc. chronicle.com/article/In-Troubled-St-Louis-Area/149505sociology.wustl.edu/news

Chicago will be hiring more junior and senior level faculty next year. They will obviously be shooting for elite-level folks, so we all have to judge for ourselves whether we qualify.

I imagine the top 10 will all have open hires, though Penn didn't have an open hire this year...I think publics will probably not have as many, if any lines. I read on this board or the other one that at UMD the AfAm lines this year were cut, as well as faculty and staff having their COL revoked because of budget cuts. I imagine Wisconsin, though probably not Madison, will be similar.

Duke had a failed race search this year so they're likely to try again.

Perhaps UCR because of a double failed search this year?

Wisconsin is likely to have a hiring freeze next year, including Madison. The Madison open search this year is still ongoing now after three candidates declined their offers.

Looks like we need to start the 2016 board, considering the TCU announcement, and I am sure there will be more. Archivist? Or is it already going? Link?
