Would someone please clarify this listing: E019 - 01 Salem State College Public/Applied Sociology Tenure Track Position, Salem State University, Fall 2014, Sociology Department
Is it Salem State College or Salem State University? These are two different schools based on the Googles.

Is it just me, or is 60 registered jobs for the ES pretty damn depressing?
Just curious, how many scheduled interviews do people have?
For what it's worth, some senior folks have mentioned this may be a market with most jobs posted after administrators see fall enrollment numbers...I suppose this could be interpreted as good or bad news.

Four interviews scheduled, four rejections, and two schools I haven't heard from.

Isn't 60 about typical? It's only ever been a limited thing -- only some kinds of jobs use the ES. And it's *so* early in the job season, too.
I have 3 interviews, btw.

8 scheduled, 3 I have not heard from. 2 others stated they will begin scheduling soon (Knox, Birmingham Southern), however, I am beginning to wonder if that was a veiled rejection.

Prior to the recession the employment service was always in the 100+ employers. From the old version of this forum: 2006 (Montreal): 136 jobs, 303 candidates, 1400 interviews 2007 (NYC): 126 jobs, 436 candidates, 1835 interviews 2008 (Boston): 117 jobs, 437 candidates, 1631 interviews 60 is still better than it was a couple of years ago, though, when they had fewer than 30 for a couple of consecutive years.

I hope that all who attend the meeting have a productive and enjoyable weekend. Try to relax a little and meet up with old friends and colleagues. The job market can be a grinding season; maintain that social network so that you don't get chewed up!

How goes it at the ASA Employment Services, for those of you who interviewed? Useful or not? Any worthwhile institutions that surprised you?
