Does anyone know the background of this search? Seems strange to begin reviewing so soon after the job was posted.

The background is that there are limited number of people at the grad center able and willing to mentor students. For some reason they are not effectively drawing on the many faculty at the CUNY campuses who could and would teach there for free. That said, it is a great gig. You are only dealing with grad students. 2/2 load and generally paid better than the regular CUNY profs.

John Jay and the Grad Center are different schools. You might post the John Jay update under a different thread.

I Got an automated email saying I was no longer under consideration for this job. Post updates if you have 'em! I got the automated one from the CUNY system and then a few hours later received an email from the committee chair. Generally, I’ve found once you make it to short list, you are in it for the long haul, with committees not sending their thanks but no thanks notifications until an offer has been made and accepted and they know there is no chance they need to dip back into the pool.

scheduled interviews. All 3 candidates are associate professors who all share the same personal background and their research interests are very much alike.
