Re: Cali questions: I don't know anything about the CCC Exchange interviews in mid-winter. I attending the CCC job fair in Los Angeles on Jan 30th, and that was very helpful in terms of understanding the scope of hiring and how to best position applications. I do think folks who are already teaching in a CCC are at an advantage over others who are either out of state or not teaching in a CC at all. And of course an excellent adjunct already teaching at a CCC that is hiring is in the best position out of all candidates. Community partnerships are important, but vary by campus and focus (I've found). The one, consistent qualification I have noticed is the clear focus on diversity in the classroom and the ability to teach across/to intersectional statuses/identities AND levels of learning AND ability/disability. You also have to be a passionate teacher, dedicated to student centered learning and kinesthetic pedagogies. Just my two cents. It's a complex process! Good luck to us all!

Is there a basic format to California CC interviews that someone might share? I've heard of a "written test", etc. So far my interview experience in the mid-west CC market looks like this
1) 15 minute teaching demo + 1 hour panel interview 2) 45 minute teaching demo + 45 panel interview 3) 30 min. Provost interview
Just wondering how the Cal system may be different. Thanks!

Every CCC has its own specific requirements, but generally speaking this is what I am finding this year...
...some schools are asking for a timed writing sample, generally on a topic they choose. you write for 20-25 minutes without the aid of any materials. ...panel interviews (1st round) generally involve 5-7 folks, and there are a set number of questions. each committee member asks a specific question(s), and most of them are taking furious notes as you talk. it's best to address the person who asks the question I've found. They seem to last 30-45 minutes. Some schools are sharing the questions 15 minutes ahead of time so you can prepare, others are not and you have to think on your feet. ...teaching demonstrations have varied for me: 10 to 30 minutes, most in front of the hiring committee, one with actual students. they tell you the topic. with the committee, they can't interact with you, so you have to pretend you are getting responses to questions or interactive pedagogies. ...2nd Interviews / Final Interviews if you pass the first round, usually with the College President. I haven't made it that far yet, so I'm not sure how that's structured.
Hope this helps!

I am striking out with CCs this year. I wonder if people who are getting interviews would be willing to chime in: Do you have CC teaching experience? Do you have a PhD? I usually wouldn't ask such questions, and I totally if people don't want to share. But CCs are tricky because they don't always list faculty backgrounds on the website (and sometimes I can't even find a faculty list!) so it is harder to compare qualifications.

I don't mind answering and hope others will too... Personally I have a MA and PhD and have experience in the CCC system and well as four year colleges and universities.

Can anyone advise on what to expect for a writing sample during the on-campus interview?

Re; Fullerton - a round of first interviews happens later this week. Re: Writing Samples - I've only completed one so far, and it was a prompt about racism in Southern California with a 20 minute time limit and no resources.

I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything about City College of San Francisco and/or Pasadena City College?
