In writing about your teaching interests in your cover letters, do you typically list general subject areas, or specific course titles from the University's course roster?

I would think the name of the course if it's a standard sociology course like intro (and you're applying to a soc dept), but if the course name is not terribly informative, and doesn't indicate what area of sociology it covers, then make sure to say what the course is really about, either in addition to or instead of the name of the course.
Like maybe you taught a course called Who is a Woman? but it was really on Sociology of Sex and Gender, and some poor misguided soul thought they were making the title more appealing to undergraduates. I think the search committee wants to know you taught a course on Sociology of Sex and Gender, and don't care what silly title it had.

Sorry, I totally read that wrong, ignore the above response. I think you want to list general areas, but I'll be watching to see what others say about that.
