I'm technically a Sociology PhD but I mostly study crim/cj with some aspects of sociology (inequality, social problems, etc.)
I've applied to almost all crim specific jobs but since crim jobs are still sometimes in soc programs (and posted in places like ASA) and there is no specific crim job market I've been coming to the forums for some updates.
I'm just curious how many other people are in the same boat? I've seen updates on some crim specific positions, but not all of them (especially those posted through ASC/ACJS).
Having a better idea of how many crim people are actually on this forum/wiki may also help to explain why we have little info about some searches.
Maybe we need a crim specific forum/wiki next year. I just hope I won't be on it!

I'm in the same boat - my Ph.D. will be in sociology and I applied to mostly crim/CJ positions. There actually was a crim/CJ specific forum last year (http://crimjobs2010-2011.wikidot.com/start), but sadly nothing for this year.
Good luck with the job search!

Was it just me, or were there not a lot of top crim departments hiring this year? My count is Rutgers, FSU, Sam Houston, & Nebraska. Lots of 3/3 & 4/4 places. Is there a chance a spring market may come into play?

Is there a chance a spring market may come into play? Sam Houston is technically a 3/3 load, and not all that highly ranked. There were a couple other PhD programs hiring for crim/cj, like Umass Lowell, who just started a Crim/CJ PhD this year and is/was hiring 4 (dunno where they are in the process). I think ASU was hiring, too. It seemed a lot of the CJ positions this year were at either teaching focused or otherwise high-load schools (Seattle, for example). Doubt there will be much more in the spring (especially at top schools), more likely it'll be VAP positions to hire the mid-level-assistants who accepted offers from other places in the fall.
