Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice invites applications for a tenure-track position in Criminal Justice at the Assistant Professor rank. The area of expertise is open, and experience working with diverse populations is valued.
The successful candidate will teach six sections per year. Regular expectations include advising undergraduate students; providing leadership in the criminal justice program; developing a productive research agenda that contributes to the discipline of criminal justice; developing working relationships with organizations to assist with internship and job placement; implementing program goals and program assessment; recruiting and retaining students; and performing departmental, university and community service.
Earned Doctorate in Criminology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or related field
Evidence of effective and inspiring university level teaching
Ability to teach a variety of courses within the existing Criminal Justice curriculum and develop new courses within the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, ideally with a focus on inequalities in the criminal justice system
Demonstrated scholarship and an active research agenda in criminology
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mentor students both inside and outside of the classroom
A commitment to supporting the university’s goals for equity and inclusion
A commitment to shared governance and service to and for the university
Applicants should submit a cover letter; updated CV; statement of teaching philosophy and effectiveness; diversity statement; academic writing sample; and letters from three references. Review of application materials will begin on November 27 and continue until the position is filled.
