Some jobs have language that for full consideration, apply by X date. Does your department review late applications and if so, how late?

We looked at applications that came in within a half day or so of the deadline. After that, the staff member responsible for processing invitations moved on to other tasks and the search committee never saw them.

It really depends on the department. A few years ago, I submitted an application a day after the deadline, and I was still invited for an initial Zoom interview.

Regional state university, lots of HR bureaucracy.
We can request a list of all late applicants. We are instructed to provide all of them with the same level of scrutiny as the initial list. Have to provide HR with ratings sheets and such. We generally don’t go through this unless the initial pool was exceptionally poor.
Unpleasant truth: at our school — relatively unknown beyond our regional area — we are looking for somebody who meets the minimal qualifications without expecting a stellar candidate. Very low bar, really, but it is surprising how many cannot surpass it. Being able to meet the application deadline is a good sign; not doing so is usually an indication of trouble down the road.

In my experiences, we initially considered all applications that were complete by the time the SC met for the first time, regardless of what the deadline was. So, in cases when we were motivated to move quickly after that deadline that meant that only on time apps got serious attention. Once the long list is developed, new candidates rarely get added. Other times, applications that were days or weeks late might be given the same consideration -- if they were in before we started voting on a long list. So, it may depend on how quickly the committee gets to work.
That said, the market year is long. SC's sometimes go back to the pool. In those cases, my unis would not care whether an application was on time - just what were the best applications in the pool.
