Minnesota sociology is searching in population studies, with a focus on population and the environment, climate change and population processes, or things in that vein. (There is also some, though defeasible, preference for a candidate who can also teach grad migration.) The position is 100% in sociology in terms of tenure home, but has teaching and service split between the sociology department and the pop center (the Minnesota Population Center and its parent organization, ISRDI, which also runs the IPUMS data suite and a few other things). Several of us, including me, are in this type of position already. The teaching load is 2-1. There is excellent mentoring for assistant professors and a widespread appreciation of issues at the work-life nexus. The search committee chair, Claire Kamp Dush (also in a position structured this way), is glad to answer questions about the position. I am too, and can particularly speak to what it's like to be an assistant prof in this environment (I am recently tenured). I will try to remember to check here for any questions about once a week, but please feel free to email me as well (ewf at umn dot edu). JOB AD: hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/356679DEADLINE: September 15 (we may or may not review applications received after that date)

Important clarification!
A focus on population and environment is a preference but ALL applications in the field of pop studies broadly will receive consideration. If you’re a demographer-sociologist who wants to be at Minnesota, apply.
