Spotted a post for an "advanced" AP and am wondering if several years of pre-academia research experience and time in a postdoctoral position would keep me in contention. I know that's not exactly what they mean, but the posting is for a dream job so I'd like to apply if it's not a waste of my time.
What do we think? Does "advanced assistant professor" mean "a few years working as an assistant professor" or can it also mean "several years of relevant work experience"?

Sorry, the answer is most likely no. Advanced means you will be up for tenure soon. If you've never held an AP position, you are not advanced.
There is nothing stopping you from applying anyway. Search committees change their minds about what they are looking for in an applicant all the time.
