Spent three years on the market before landing a TT job at a totally dysfunctional, nightmare department. Hostile, petty colleagues, etc.
Pretty convinced that if you land in a shit department, you basically have zero mobility. I spent the past four years working my ass off to make my CV better. Got only a handful of interviews in those four years and only one flyout. No offers.
I've now decided to leave the nightmare in hopes that I can do something else with my life other than be a professor. Tenure in hell isn't worth it and no other department wants me.

It is funny. We are told getting a TT job is this super special opportunity and calling. Yet, it's really just a job. And sometimes it can be quite a bad job. Hopefully, you can find something better.

Yeah, at a certain point you have to objectively assess your options within academia. If you landed at a bad place and didn't get any other offers despite your best efforts, then it is probably not going to get much better for you unless your luck really changes. And unfortunately it's prob harder for you now that you have the stank of this bad place on you.
In that scenario, it makes sense to cut your losses and just accept the sunk costs of those years of your life, try to use your skills in some other way outside academia. In reality, many other jobs we can get with our data skills are better paying and in better locations, with less work.
I personally was lucky enough to get a bunch of offers, and I chose a 2-2 R2 in a cool location. I was aiming for exactly that kind of place and feel very, very lucky.

Tenure in hell isn't worth it and no other department wants me. how bad it could be? I just got campus-interviewed in a department where I hardly find anyone whose research interests me. The department seems dysfunctional as it takes more than five months to send out flyouts and they even changed the interview schedule in the morning of my campus visit day. The interview itself was tough, as the committee members maintained poker faces throughout, leaving me uncertain about their level of interest in my answers or me as an individual. I feel I am not their first choice but still super frustrated if there comes no offer. I am currently holding a postdoc which ends at the end of 2024. I guess knowing how bad to work in a toxic and dysfunctional enviroment may help me feel better?

be careful how many details you put online. i don't know you, but based on the number of details you included here somebody in that department could figure out who you are and they may not appreciate your comments about their department.

I think we solved the mystery of why you aren't getting job offers: what a snotty attitude! I would never vote to hire someone that I anticipated would be unpleasant in our many years of going to meetings together and whatnot. JMCs: If you want a job, be cool. Don't be all, like, uncool. #NecessaryButObviouslyNotSufficient
