Hi all, I'm interested in applying to a non-academic position. In the job ad, it states staff make work up to 4 days/week from remote locations, but need to be present in the office at least one day/week. Is it worth it to reach out to see if they can accommodate fully remote applicants? It seems pretty clear in the job ad, but I'm not sure if it would hurt to ask. TIA!

Probably not, since they're so clear and specific in the job ad -- that presumably came about after some consideration and they know they could get more applicants if it were fully remote. The exception is if the position seems like it would be hard to fill (if it requires some pretty rare skill that you have, or if it's been posted for a long time) -- then I might inquire because they might be willing to give up something they wanted to get someone good.
Keep in mind that if you don't live in the same state as the university, that will open up additional complications for them.

I appreciate your response. It's a non-academic job, and not the same state. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed they may eventually accept full remote applicants. It's a place I've wanted to work at for quite some time.

I think it's worth asking, but they will probably say no. If they really like you and they can legally allow it, they may say yes. good luck!

I would 100% ask. You lose literally nothing if you politely ask. And if a few people ask, they may get the message that they need to accommodate remote work (as academia should, btw, in this ongoing pandemic).
