The Division of Sociology within the Department of Psychological Sciences at Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas is seeking applications for an Instructor to start in the Fall 2022 semester. This position is a 9-month position. Required teaching load: five undergraduate courses during the fall semester and five undergraduate courses during the spring semester. Summer employment beyond the 9-month contract will be contingent upon the need for services, and budget availability.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, recruit and mentor students, and provide service to the university. The essential duties and responsibilities of the position are:
100% Teaching and Service (this position carries a 5/5 course load): Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty
Applicants must have earned a master’s degree in Sociology or a related field. Experience teaching in higher education and the ability to teach two or more of our general education sociology courses (Introductory Sociology; Social Problems; Race and Ethnic Relations) is preferred.
