The Law, Criminal Justice, and Society (LCJS) Program at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a two-semester, full-time Visiting Lecturer position to teach a 3-3 course load in AY 2022-23. Each semester, the Visiting Lecturer will teach two sections of Introduction to LCJS (one in-person and the other online) and one in-person or online section of another course (Gender, Race, Class, and Criminal Justice for at least one of the terms). Typical enrollments are 45-50 students for in-person sections and 20-25 for online sections. The successful candidate will be provided with a master syllabus and extensive but modifiable instructional and assessment materials for both courses.
Minimum qualifications include any of the following:
*ABD (Ph.D. preferred) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related social science or public policy field (if a related field, then-candidate should have significant teaching and/or research experience related to law and/or criminal justice).
*JD + Master’s degree in social science or public policy field
*JD + at least one year of experience researching criminal justice issues with a governmental or non-governmental organization
*JD + at least one-year professional experience in criminal law or other areas of criminal
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in remote, online, or distanced teaching, familiarity with learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas, and a proven ability to interact effectively with diverse undergraduate student audiences, including nontraditional and adult students. Professional experience in law and criminal justice would be a plus, as would teaching and/or research experience related to law, justice, and social inequality. Salary and benefits are competitive. This position may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
