Has anyone here had experience with interviewing at policy or urban planning schools? I have applied to a few and am curious as to if the interview process is the same, e.g. job talks. Thanks for any info!

I applied to a bunch of urban planning and policy jobs this year. So far I've had one phone interview, and it sounded like the on-campus interview (if I got one) would be similar to what I did when I got my TT job in sociology a few years ago. I also just got a rejection email from UC-Berkeley's search for a housing specialist in DCRP. Otherwise haven't heard anything.
I wish there were an independent wiki/forum for urban planning jobs - but apparently not enough to start one myself. ;-) Good luck!

I applied to the UC Berkeley housing specialist position as well. Care to share the gist of the email you received?

Here's the email. I wasn't very surprised, as I wasn't a good fit. Maybe you're a much better fit and will have made it on to the next round! Good luck. "Dear Applicant: On behalf of the Search Committee, thank you for submitting your materials to the University of California at Berkeley for the position of Assistant Professor in Housing Planning, Policy and Development, in the Department of City and Regional Planning (#1620NT). The search drew a large number of applicants and was extremely competitive. The search committee has completed its first level of review and I regret that you were not selected for further consideration for this position. Although the search is continuing with the next level of applicants, we wanted to inform you of your status now in case you are pursuing other options. We appreciate the time and preparation invested in your application, as well as your expression of interest in UC Berkeley. We wish you great success in your future endeavors. If you have further questions regarding this search, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Michael Southworth Professor and Chair of Faculty Search Committee Department of City and Regional Planning College of Environmental Design University of California, Berkeley"

I just received an email saying I made a short list at UC Berkeley Housing. They are asking for more materials.

I applied to San Francisco State University Department of Public Administration (TT, urban governance position). I had a phone interview in early November, and when I recently inquired with the search chair, he said they were still reviewing candidates and that they would have invitations for on-campus interviews in January. I'm guessing that means I did not wow them very much with my phone interview since they are clearly still looking for someone better. :(

Anyone know the typical tenure schedule/research requirements for an urban planning or policy school?

The city planning/urban studies job list says that MIT has asked for references and writing samples. Sadly, they did not ask for my references or writing samples.
