The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position (sabbatical replacement) in sociology starting September 1, 2022. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body.
Applicants should have a completed PhD at the start of the position. The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach five courses over three trimesters, including two sections of introduction to sociology and three elective courses based on candidate expertise and the interests of the department. Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
To apply, please visit the Carleton College web site at careers.carleton.edu to complete the online application by submitting a letter of application, c.v., two sample syllabi, contact information for three letters of recommendation (whom we will contact to solicit letters after an initial round of reviewing applications), and a statement about teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment and how you would contribute to a college community that embraces a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. Applications will be read on a rolling basis with full consideration given to applicants that apply on or before January 28, 2022. In your letter of application please detail your preparation for teaching introduction to sociology, provide a brief description of the elective courses you propose, and elaborate on your commitment to teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts college.
