Just received an email saying that the search for the race/ethnicity position was not successful and that theyβd be advertising the position again. Sigh.

Received an email that the search was closed and unsuccessful. I wonder if them recording the preliminary zoom interviews had anything to do with it. Iβve never heard of a committee recording preliminary interviews but I donβt think itβs typical. Their questions were also adjacent to what is often typically asked. For example, one question was βhow do you define excellence in teaching.β It felt like they were trying to catch someone in something. Very odd.

I've had other Zoom interviews be recorded for the rest of the department to watch (not sure if anyone actually bothers to watch), but imagine not being able to fill a race position with this candidate pool/job market. Lots of red flags on the faculty page for the department too - no junior folks, shocking lack of diversity, etc.

Very strange indeed. By many accounts this was an especially strong and stacked year for race researchers so one has to wonder why this search failed, especially when it sounds like some candidates were still waiting to hear any news at all
