Reaching Out After Zoom Interview?

Say you have multiple flyouts coming up really soon. You did a preliminary Zoom interview with a department about a week ago but haven't heard news of anyone getting an invitation for a campus visit yet. Is it appropriate to send a polite email to the search chair to let them know that you have other flyouts coming up but have strong interest in this particular position and would like to know if they can provide an update of the timeline of the rest of the search?

I would say it is probably ok, but I don't really see the point. I think it makes more sense to wait until you have an offer before you contact them because at this point, your information won't change anything. That said, if you didn't already ask about the timeline in your screening interview, then it is definitely fine to email and ask that.

Thanks! I didn't ask about the timeline during the screening interview, and I've heard from other people that if your interview went well AND they know you are seriously considering their school, it can help move you up to the shortlist? Still unclear about that, but just figured it wouldn't hurt to reach out.

I forgot to ask about the timeline after a Zoom interview screener. Is it appropriate to follow-up (e.g., 2 weeks after) to ask about the timeline? I'm in no rush, however. Or should I wait and/or assume I'm not getting an on-campus interview?

OP here. Idk about your specific situation, but I had two upcoming campus visits and didn't want to miss any opportunities because of timing issues. That's why I reached out a week after the Zoom interviews concluded (which was hopefully before they made decisions on who to invite for a campus visit).

I think generally, if you have a reason to, it doesn't hurt to send a polite email to ask for an update. My reason was that I had other visits coming up soon and wouldn't be able to be in multiple places at once if I did advance to the next stage.
