It just dawned on me today that with Thanksgiving break and Christmas break rapidly approaching, and exam and paper grading, not much is likely to happen before January for searches with November or December deadlines. I've even heard of a few places that have already conducted phone interviews who won't be bringing candidates in until January.
I find all this to be incredibly annoying, yet oddly comforting to know that there will be a couple months of calm.

Yeah, there's a long way to go yet for teaching schools. Happy Holidays, Soc Forum!

I consider myself a veteran of the job market. The holidays are brutal. At first I'm calm, but then I become increasingly anxious. NOTHING HAPPENS. So, I stew and I twiddle my thumbs and I complain to friends also on the job market and I wallow in angst and I hit refresh like a rat at a pellet bar in a psych experiment. By early January I have already planned wild Plan Bs (like...teach English in Costa Rica, work for Amazon.com, try for the United Nations, open a vegetarian coffeehouse/bookstore, go to seminary, write a sci-fi novel and live off the earnings, etc).
But this year, I will be trying for a healthier approach.... we'll see! :-)

Pretty sure I've been rejected from every school I applied to! How many of you are seriously considering leaving academia all together after this?

You should remember that the job market is terrible, and if you are getting interviews, that indicates that your materials are good enough, so maybe the thing to do is work on the interview skills. If you aren't getting interviews despite sending out 50-75 applications, then you might be aiming too high and need to work on teaching/research to be more competitive.
