Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology, Western Washington University
The Sociology Department at Western Washington is seeking candidates for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position. Candidates must have a PhD or ABD at time of application and expertise in one of the following areas: 1) statistics and quantitative methods, or 2) intimate relationships, marriages, and families. The one-year contract can begin either September 2021 (through June 2022) or January 2022 (through December 2022), depending on the successful candidate’s preference and availability. The standard teaching load is six courses over three quarters. Instruction can be either face-to-face or remote for fall quarter 2021. Classes will be offered in-person beginning in winter quarter 2022. The successful candidate will offer courses in one of the following areas: 1) quantitative research methods and social statistics, or 2) marriage, intimate relationships, and families. Additional courses will consist of electives in area of the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill teaching and mentoring responsibilities in ways that provide equitable and inclusive learning environments for all students.

The Sociology Department is comprised of thirteen full-time faculty engaged in a wide range of research activities who often involve undergraduate students in their research. The Department also maintains a significant international focus, and enthusiastically supports faculty-led study abroad programs. The Sociology Department contributes to Western’s mission to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university that develops the potential of learners and the well-being of communities.
