Family Diversity and Human Development – Assistant/Associate Professor
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at Purdue University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) beginning August 2021. We seek applicants who can contribute to promoting diversity in human development and family science. Ideal candidates would have expertise in one or more of the following areas: ethnic and cultural variations in families and development; the psychosocial experience of vulnerable and culturally diverse populations; disparities in underserved, under-represented populations; immigrant families; and families affected by poverty or other adverse circumstances. Applicants with research experience in adolescence are particularly welcomed. This position would complement existing work being conducted in the department on Latinx families, cross-cultural development, and dual-language learners. This is one of three open positions in the department. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Human Development and Family Studies or a relevant social or health science discipline with a focus on the development of humans and/or families broadly construed (e.g. African American studies, Anthropology, Education, Latin American Studies, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, etc.).
The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research, including procuring internal and external funding; mentoring graduate students; and engaging in service at the campus, community, state, and/or national level. We are seeking a faculty member with a strong research program that is capable of attracting external funding. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses pertaining to diversity, as well as additional courses based on department needs and candidate expertise. Applicants with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply and should highlight this work in their diversity and inclusion statement.
