Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Mississippi
The Department of Legal Studies at The University of Mississippi is seeking applications for two, nine-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor positions. The positions are for the Criminal Justice program. The University of Mississippi is included in the elite group of R-1: Doctoral Universities – Highest Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
The Department is housed within the School of Applied Sciences in Oxford, MS. In addition to our recognition as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for by The Chronicle of Higher Education, UM has also been acknowledged for the second year in a row in the Chronicle’s 2017 Great Colleges Honor Roll, an award given to only 10 universities with an enrollment of more than 10,000 students. The Department currently offers a B.S. in Criminal Justice, a B.S. in Law Studies, and a Master’s in Criminal Justice (MCJ).
In 2017, the University of Mississippi initiated Flagship Constellations, which are designed to bring together a wide range of faculty from across campus to address some of the most difficult and complex problems facing our nation and world. If you’re interested in working with crossdisciplinary researchers to solve key, grand challenges, this is an exceptional opportunity for you.
Interested applicants should electronically upload a letter of application that includes a description of their teaching, research, accomplishments, goals, and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness (ABD applicants should include a section describing their dissertation progress and timeline for completion), unofficial transcripts, curriculum vitae, and contact information of three professional references. Combine the documents into two individual documents and utilize the "cover letter" and "resume" upload feature. Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2019 and will continue until both positions are filled. The desired appointment date is Fall 2020.
Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Inquiries about the position may be directed to: Dr. Kimberly Kaiser, Search Committee Chair, School of Applied Sciences, Department of Legal Studies, University of Mississippi, Email: kakaise1@go.olemiss.edu.
Minimum Education/Experience: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, law studies, or a related discipline (ABDs may apply, but degree must be in hand by the start of employment). Successful candidates will have a record of peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals, an established capacity to secure and maintain extramural funding, a demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate students, and a clearly articulated service agenda. Expectations are commensurate with Research 1 institutions. Areas of specialization are open, although candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to teaching in the Department of Legal Studies graduate program, which was recently awarded the 2019 Donald R. Cole Excellence in Promoting Inclusiveness in Graduate Education Award.
EEO Statement: The University of Mississippi complies with all applicable laws regarding equal opportunity and affirmative action and does not unlawfully discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of race, color, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran status or genetic information.
