The Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University seeks candidates for a tenure-track, academic year, assistant or associate professor in Sociology beginning in the fall semester of 2020, pending budgetary approval. This is one of several new positions in the WMU College of Arts and Sciences that are part of a faculty cluster established to build on our existing excellence in public health research and community engagement to create innovative public health solutions (https://www.wmich.edu/arts-sciences/public-health-cluster-hire ).
The position requires a PhD degree in Sociology or a related field awarded by August 1, 2021. We are seeking candidates with an active research and publication agenda in medical sociology or public health. Preference will be given to candidates whose work emphasizes health inequalities, especially as related to race, ethnicity, and class. The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory and specialized courses in these areas at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the success of students from underrepresented groups. The Department of Sociology offers an MA and a PhD in Sociology and offers undergraduate majors in Sociology, Criminal Justice Studies and Social Psychology.
