The Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland invites applications for a full-time Lecturer to begin in the fall 2019 semester. The position is a nine month appointment. It is a professional track position with the possibility of renewal and a non-tenure promotion track. A PhD in sociology is required. Excellent teaching credentials are required. Duties include teaching three classes in each of the fall and spring semesters, along with other activities that accompany a full-time position on the faculty, such as attending faculty meetings and mentoring students. The opportunity to teach summer and/or winter term classes for additional salary will also be available. The position includes financial support for travel and research activities. And, the university provides a comprehensive benefits package to professional-track faculty. To apply for the position: submit a letter of application, a cv that includes contact information for three references, a statement of teaching philosophy, and evidence of effective and engaging teaching that improves student outcomes. Preference will be given to candidates who specialize in Health and Illness and can teach an internship class.
