This is mostly oriented toward job market veterans, but I am wondering the following: For those of you who interviewed with an institution at ASA and then were at some point in the future invited for an on-campus interview, was there an intermediate step such as a phone interview, etc?
I know that the sample size here might be relatively small and that this depends on the size/resources of the institution in question, but I am wondering about this situation. My assumption is that if you've met them in person at ASA and they like your application materials vis-a-vis the rest of the candidate pool, they'd skip the phone/Skype interview and bring you to campus for a job talk.
Any experience on this or thoughts in general? Any thoughtful information is appreciated.

Not necessarily--I had an ES interview and a phone interview, then was subsequently invited to an on-campus interview.

I had an interview at ASA this August and then was later invited to do an on-campus interview without having to do the phone interview in between.
