The School of Social Work seeks to appoint a tenure-track junior faculty member to participate as a part of a cluster concentrating on issues connected with children in poverty. The successful applicant will join a group of scholars based in the Schools of Social Work, Education, and Public Policy who also work on poverty issues. The successful candidate will have an established research agenda and a record of publication, preferably in peer-reviewed journals, on issues and links between child well-being and poverty; the multiple dimensions of risk factors for children in poverty; and on programs and policies targeted to low income children in multiple spheres, such as social services, public benefits, and education systems. MSW degree preferred; Ph.D. and/or training in social work or related fields, such as psychology, sociology, political science, or public health required.

The School of Social Work seeks to appoint a tenure-track junior faculty member whose work focuses on adolescent substance use and abuse, with specific expertise in the area of prevention, intervention, or treatment. The successful applicant will join a group of scholars based in the School of Public Health, the School of Social Work, and the Medical School, who engage in collaborative research in adolescent drug and substance abuse. The successful candidate will have responsibilities for promoting the SSWs undergraduate education initiatives. This faculty member will work with other faculty members to develop coursework in the area of adolescent substance use and abuse that can be cross-listed and made widely available to the UM undergraduate community. This type of coursework would have relevance for a variety of majors, including (but not limited to) psychology, nursing, education, anthropology, neuroscience, public policy, and sociology. MSW degree preferred; Ph.D. and/or training in social work or related fields, such as psychology, anthropology, economics, sociology, political science, sociology, or public health/policy required.

URBAN/COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH The SSW seeks to appoint a tenure-track junior faculty member with experience and expertise in community-based social work practice and research in urban settings to participate as part of a cluster in urban studies with particular attention to social inequality and the prospects for equity and sustainability. The successful candidate will join a group of scholars based in the Center for Afro-american & African Studies (CAAS), the Department of Sociology, the Urban and Regional Planning Program in Taubman College, and the School of Social Work working on issues relevant to the urban condition broadly defined - such as community infrastructure, sustainable development, and the built environment- but with a particular focus on questions of inequality. A successful candidate will have an established research agenda and a record of publication, preferably in peer-reviewed journals, focused on issues related to inequality, including unequal access to education, health care, transportation, and/or employment, and approaches to addressing inequality. Candidates should also have experience with and interest in the Detroit area or a similar urban environment and a strong interest in interdisciplinary work. MSW degree preferred; Ph.D. in social work or a related field (e.g. psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, public policy, public health) required.
