Hobart and William Smith Colleges seek candidates for up to two tenure track assistant professorships. Specifically, we seek candidates with teaching and research interests that focus on the following: (1) race, ethnicity, stratification; or (2) deviance, criminology, and juvenile delinquency; or (3) political sociology and urban sociology. Interest in cross-cultural comparative study or international development is highly desirable. It would also be useful for the candidate(s) to offer one or more specific courses in applied sociology from the following: the sociology of sport, medicine, law, technology, environment, and art and culture. The ability to teach quantitative and qualitative research methods is desirable, but not required. The successful candidate(s) must be strongly committed to the teaching of Introduction to Sociology, a shared responsibility within the Department, and to participation in interdisciplinary programs such as Asian Languages and Cultures, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, and Women’s Studies.
Ph.D. strongly preferred but A.B.D. candidates will be given some consideration. Evidence of superior teaching and scholarly ability required.
Please send a curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, research and teaching interests, writing sample, sample syllabi and assignments, and arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent to:
