The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Department of Sociology (https://uwm.edu/sociology/) is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position that will begin August 19, 2019. We seek a scholar with a focus on social inequality that emphasizes race/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, and/or economic inequality in research and teaching.
Successful applicants should have strong research accomplishments and demonstrated or potential ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in social inequality and sociology. Responsibilities include developing an independent research program, actively seeking external funding to help support research and scholarship, and actively participating in university service. In addition, it is expected that the successful applicant will contribute towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

UWM is a Carnegie “Research 1” institution located in Wisconsin’s cultural and economic center in a vibrant urban setting on Milwaukee’s North Shore close to Lake Michigan. Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Sociology or related field (with expectation to complete by time of appointment); record of research/scholarly publication in Sociology; teaching experience in the field of Sociology.
Research interests that build upon existing departmental strengths in the areas of race/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, and/or economic inequality; record of, or potential for, extramural funding; demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body at the undergraduate or graduate level.
