The Sociology Department at Widener University invites applications for the position of a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor to begin in Fall 2019. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Sociology or be in advanced ABD status, with a specialty in Community and Urban Sociology. We are especially interested in hiring an individual who can contribute to Widener’s civic mission of “contributing to the vitality and well-being of the communities it serves through civic engagement and service learning.” Teaching responsibilities will include introduction to sociology and urban sociology. There is also an expectation that the new faculty member will develop courses related to their areas of interest and a desire that these courses contribute to the African and African American Studies program or the sustainability in the classroom initiative.
Widener University is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages applications from women and minority candidates. The Sociology Department and the College of Arts and Sciences are committed to fostering an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive. Those candidates experienced in, or who would enjoy, working with a diverse range of faculty, staff and students, and those who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas.
Applicants must submit all materials electronically to Widener.igreentree.com. Review of applications will begin on November 12, 2018. Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, transcripts, and evidence of teaching effectiveness through the on-line system. In addition, three confidential letters of reference should be sent to Arts_and_Sciences@widener.edu. Please be certain all documents are submitted in either .docx or .pdf format.
