JOB DESCRIPTION
The Department of Sociology in the Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Indianapolis is seeking a faculty member in sociology beginning in August 2019, for a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the assistant professor level. Due to a departmental retirement, a January, 2019 start date may be possible depending on the candidate. The department is recognized for faculty and student engagement in the local community, its research concentration, including through its Community Research Center (CRC), and its strong focus on social inequality.
Areas of expertise include a combination of social class stratification, gender, and the family. The ideal candidate will also have experience and interest in teaching 100-level courses such as introductory sociology and social problems. Opportunities to teach in other areas of expertise (e.g., applied sociology, environmental sociology, theory, conflict resolution, the sociology of religion, etc.) may be possible depending upon departmental needs. Interest in community engagement and/or supporting student and community research is a plus. PhD or ABD with strong evidence of completing the doctorate prior to the beginning the position required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach 24 credit hours per year
Provide service to the department, college, University, and/or community
Make scholarly contributions to the discipline
If appropriate, serve in departmental administrative roles such as the MA director or the co-director of the CRC with release time from teaching
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD or ABD with strong evidence of completing the doctorate prior to the beginning the position required
Interest in community engagement and/or supporting student and community research is a plus
