RESPONSIBILITIES
• We are hiring at least one fixed-term position. Each position will teach four courses (12 credits) per semester. We expect the incumbent to teach courses that would include, but are not limited to, some combination of introduction to sociology, introductory research methods, sociology of families, and additional upper-level sociology courses per department needs.
• Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
• Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
• Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
• Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve. Serve on department, college, university and community committees.
• Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Earned doctorate or ABD in Sociology
• Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant teaching experience at the college level
• Experience teaching large sections of introductory courses
• Experience teaching courses such as introduction to sociology, sociology of families, introduction to criminal justice, research methods, social theory, sociology of education, family violence, health and illness, political sociology, and/or urban sociology.
• Record of graduate coursework supporting prospective teaching assignments
• Record of research experience supporting prospective teaching assignments
• Relevant non-academic and/or professional experience
• Leadership abilities
• Effective communication skills
• Skills/ability to design and integrate technology for enhanced learning and teaching and innovative teaching methods
