The Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Department of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) seeks a teaching-oriented colleague to join our committed and dynamic interdisciplinary department. The department offers a Sociology major and a variety of minors including: Anthropology; Child & Family Studies; Criminal Justice; Social Work; Sociology; and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. We have eight full-time faculty members and 200 majors and minors.
We seek candidates committed to innovative undergraduate teaching; working collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across disciplines; and mentoring diverse and engaged students.
The successful candidate will teach courses in Classical Sociological Theory and at least one other theoretical tradition (Critical, Feminist, Modern, and/or Postmodern); Social Problems; and a third substantive area (open). Introductory and upper-level course repertoire expected, including Introduction to Sociology. There is potential for the successful candidate to develop a new interdisciplinary minor with incoming and existing faculty members of the department.
The position requires teaching 12 credits (four courses) per semester. Additional responsibilities include recruiting and advising majors and minors; participating in departmental and college service; and maintaining active scholarship.
Requirements:
PhD in Sociology at time of appointment
Undergraduate teaching experience
Ability to work with diverse array of students and colleagues
Desire to meaningfully participate in MCLA's campus community
