The Department of Sociology at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a three year term position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin January 1, 2012, subject to budgetary approval. An opportunity exists for conversion to a tenure-track position, subject to budgetary approval and the department's needs.
A Ph.D. in Sociology, completed or near completion is required. Areas of research are open. The ability to teach a range of courses, including at least one of qualitative research methods, gender, deviance, family, or medical sociology/sociology of health and illness is also an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record or showing clear evidence of a promising research career. Depending on research area, the individual may have the opportunity to coordinate some research activities with the Prentice Institute for Global Population and the Economy (http://www.uleth.ca/prenticeinstitute/)
Department members engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate supervision, and research. Community involvement is also encouraged.
New faculty members are eligible to apply for university funding in support of research and scholarly activities.
The position is open to all qualified applicants, although preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
