Assistant Professor in Child Development and Social Policy in the Department of Family and Consumer Studies (FCS)
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the social sciences with research and teaching emphases in child development and social policy, broadly defined. Candidates should have an excellent record of research and evidence of the potential or demonstrated ability to generate extramural funding, commensurate with their career stage.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have expertise in policy-relevant child development topics. Research interests should connect child development to social policy contexts. The candidate will be expected to apply for intramural and extramural funding to support a strong research program. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in early childhood (birth through age 8). Examples of research topics include, but are not limited to: effects of health policies (e.g., Medicaid, WIC) on youth outcomes, effects of Head Start on educational and social outcomes, the effects of early childhood education on the well-being of children with special needs, impacts of school-home-community issues such as charters schools, effects of play-based educational policies on child development, and the impact of multicultural curriculum on child outcomes. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in Human Development and Social Policy, the Master’s in Public Policy Capstone course, and other courses focusing on child/human development, health, or policy.
