The Peace and Justice Studies Program (PJS) within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences of Pace University invites applications for an anticipated faculty position at the Lecturer level to begin September 2017. The position is located at the University’s New York City campus in lower Manhattan. The Peace and Justice Studies program includes a growing major and minor that draws undergraduate students from a wide range of disciplinary interests and backgrounds. The program is grounded in commitments to conflict transformation, nonviolent social change, human rights, reconciliation/transitional justice and intersectional/decolonizing understandings of justice and peace-building work.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in a discipline related to Peace and Justice Studies (such as sociology, anthropology, political science, women’s and gender studies, history, economics, and/or development studies with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary training), although preference will be given to those with an earned a PhD or equivalent in Peace and Justice Studies. We are seeking a colleague whose interests engage questions linked to community-based activism, advocacy with marginalized communities and/or social justice issues in the US and whose research and teaching expertise might include alternative dispute resolution (facilitation/mediation/negotiation), critical race and ethnicity studies, indigenous issues, mass incarceration issues, restorative justice or other conflict/social justice issues particularly related to the US context.
Candidates will be expected to teach sections of the Introduction to Peace and Justice Studies course as well as upper division courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise, supervise internships, and advise PJS students.
Application materials should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statements describing the candidate's research and teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations (if available) as well as names and contact information for three academic/professional references willing to provide letters of recommendation upon request.
