The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Sociology/Criminology or related discipline and will have demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to a campus community. He/she will teach Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Criminology, and other electives to support the University’s program. Located close to the Baltimore and D.C. metropolitan areas, the Mount is a comprehensive, nationally recognized university enrolling 2,300 students and having a 14:1 student to faculty ratio. We seek to build an inclusive faculty that can engage the interests of an increasingly diverse student population. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
Mount St. Mary’s University, the second oldest Catholic university in the United States, seeks faculty members willing to engage and support our Catholic identity. In Criminal Justice this includes rejecting simplistic solutions, taking rehabilitation seriously, challenging cultures of violence, treating immigrants justly, and seeking solutions to problems of poverty and substance abuse. Successful candidates will share our commitment to the dignity and solidarity of all persons and to the value of intercultural understanding.
Application materials should discuss how you might contribute to the University’s Catholic Liberal Arts mission, which can be found on our website. Please send cover letter and vita, along with three letters of recommendation, to Virginia McGovern at mcgovern@msmary.edu. Please submit all application materials in a single e-mail if possible.
We will conduct preliminary interviews by phone. Applicant review is ongoing, and the position will remain open until filled.
