City University of New York Medgar Evers College (NY) - Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Sociology
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Department of Social & Behavioral Science (SBS) at Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York invites applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor in Sociology to begin Fall 2017. Applicants with experience in teaching or research in social movements and globalization, social stratification, social deviance, police and penal systems, gender and institutions, and/or experience or interest in applied urban sociology, and a demonstrable interest in interdisciplinary research are especially encouraged to apply.
Medgar Evers College, a senior CUNY college, offers associate and baccalaureate degrees with an enrollment of over 6,000 students and is located in Central Brooklyn. The SBS Department is dedicated to promoting student success, one student at a time, and therefore prefers faculty who are creative in innovative educational strategies to mentor students to be well-rounded social science professionals.The position requires teaching, student advisement/mentoring, assisting with curricula and new degree program development, college service in committees, and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions, as well as active research and scholarship. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach introductory and advanced Sociology courses as well as, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The position also offers opportunities for interdisciplinary work and collaboration with faculty in the Schools of Liberal Arts & Education, and other faculties.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.
-Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
-All candidates must have successful teaching experience at the college level, and demonstrate a strong commitment to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
-Experience with diverse student populations in urban settings is desired.
-The successful candidate will have broad professional related industry experience, an active research program and demonstrate a strong potential for scholarship, research and publication, as these are required for re-appointment for one academic year.
