The Center for Latin American Studies and the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida invite applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in the social sciences with a teaching and research focus on crime, law, and governance in the Americas to begin in August 2017. The appointment will be made jointly between the Center and the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law. Substantive interests may include but need not be restricted to: victimology, interpersonal, criminal or collective violence, human trafficking, transnational criminal activities, environmental or wildlife law, and drugs and society.
We seek applicants with superior promise who combine rigorous scholarship with excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Sociology, Criminology and Crime, Law, and Governance in the Americas. Candidates should have their Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or a related social science field and have degree in hand or near completion at the time of hiring. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.

The Center for Latin American Studies, which dates back to 1930 and is the oldest Latin American Studies program in the US, has been designated as a National Resource Center under the US Department of Education's Title VI program continuously since 1961. The Center offers a Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies (MALAS), a Masters of Arts in Sustainable Development Practice (MDP), graduate and undergraduate certificates, an undergraduate minor, and a joint law degree.
